If you’ve been dreaming of a quick six-hour drive from Goa to Mumbai, you’ll have to wait a little longer. The much-awaited NH-66 (Goa–Mumbai highway), also known as the Konkan Expressway, has hit yet another delay.

According to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the project’s completion is now expected by late 2026 or early 2027, a full three years past its original 2023 target. The ambitious highway, meant to cut the travel time between Goa and Mumbai from 12–13 hours to just six, has been slowed by land acquisition issues, environmental clearances, and design changes in Maharashtra.
The good news? Work is moving steadily. Most sections in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri are already over 90% complete, while Raigad district is catching up fast. One section on the Indapur–Panvel stretch even features a four-lane road made using recycled steel slag, marking an eco-friendly innovation in Indian road construction.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had earlier announced a September 2025 deadline in Parliament, but with new challenges emerging, the revised timeline now stretches into 2026–27.
While the wait continues, travelers can look forward to smoother, faster, and more scenic coastal drives once the Goa–Mumbai highway finally opens — connecting the Konkan coast like never before.
