Goa Transport Department Suspends Ola Electric’s Trade Certificate — Halts New Registrations

Ola electric goa

Panjim, Goa: In a major setback for Ola Electric, the Goa Department of Transport has suspended the company’s trade certificate, effectively stopping all new vehicle sales and registrations in the state. The move comes amid rising complaints from Ola scooter owners regarding poor service, delayed repairs, and unavailability of spare parts.

⚠️ Why the Action Was Taken

The Department stated that the suspension follows multiple grievances from consumers, including:

  • Long repair delays and unresponsive service centers
  • Lack of spare parts and unclear warranty procedures
  • Scooters lying unrepaired for months

Hundreds of frustrated Ola owners reportedly approached RTO officials, highlighting persistent issues with after-sales service and technical support.

Officials confirmed that Ola Electric’s registration access on the Vahan portal has been temporarily blocked, preventing any further registrations of new vehicles until the issues are resolved.

🧑‍⚖️ Department’s Official Statement

A senior Transport Department official told O Heraldo:

“The office has notified affected consumers to formally file complaints with the consumer court to ensure legal action can proceed. Given the volume of grievances and inadequate redressal from the company, consumers have been advised to approach the consumer court for remedy.”

The official also acknowledged that the severity of service breakdown had prompted coordination between the Department of Transport and the State government to ensure compliance and accountability from the manufacturer.

🔧 Consumer Impact

With the suspension in effect:

  • New Ola Electric sales and registrations are halted in Goa.
  • Existing customers are being encouraged to pursue their complaints through legal channels.
  • Service and repair operations may face further scrutiny until the company meets state requirements.

This marks one of the most significant consumer protection actions taken by a state transport department against an EV manufacturer in recent months.

🌱 What’s Next for Ola Electric?

While Ola has yet to issue an official statement, the suspension could push the company to strengthen its service infrastructure, customer support, and spare parts availability in Goa and other states facing similar complaints.

As the EV sector grows rapidly in India, consumer trust and after-sales service are proving to be as crucial as innovation and performance.
