Goans Shocked: 5-Year Power Tariff Hike Gets the Green Light

Electricity bills in Goa are set to rise steadily over the next few years. The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has approved a power tariff hike for five consecutive years, meaning consumers will pay more for electricity starting from the financial year 2025–26 through 2029–30.

The commission, which regulates power distribution across Goa and the Union Territories, has sanctioned an average annual increase of around 4% in electricity tariffs. While the hike aims to balance rising operational costs and improve infrastructure, it is expected to pinch household and business budgets alike.

The move comes amid growing concerns over energy costs and sustainability. With this approval, Goans can expect a gradual—but consistent—rise in their electricity bills over the next five years.
